Transportation Plan
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The City of Mesa’s Transportation Department is currently
updating the existing City of Mesa 2025
Transportation Plan, which was adopted by the Mesa City
Council on June 24, 2002.
The
existing plan
is over ten years old and is in need of an update to ensure a fully functional, multimodal transportation
system that serves the mobility needs of local citizens,
enhances efficient goods movement, and that also meets the
long-range planning needs of the City.
The new Transportation Plan Update, referred to as the My
Mesa 2040 Transportation Plan, will include a public
participation process, the completion of an in-depth
inventory and analysis, the development of a project Travel
Demand Model, the completion of community transportation
planning elements, the analysis and development of special
transportation areas, completion of the plan document for
review, the development of an implementation strategy, and
final preparation of the plan.
The Transportation Plan Update will utilize the existing
framework of the City of Mesa 2025 Transportation Plan, and
will include the following elements:
- Roadway
- Pedestrian
- Aviation
- Bicycle
- Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
- Travel Demand Management (TDM)
- Transit
- Complete Streets
Public
Participation Process
The Mesa Transportation Department will coordinate public
participation activities with the Mesa Planning Division,
which is presently involved in updating the City of Mesa
General Plan to the planning horizon year of 2040.
Transportation Planning will coordinate with the Planning
Division on as many public outreach opportunities as
possible, which includes:
- Neighborhood Outreach Meetings in each of the City
Council Districts,
- Pancake Breakfast Events in each of the City Council
Districts,
- Celebrate Mesa and other city events,
and
- Special Planning Division-sponsored East and West
Mesa General Plan Update Meetings.
Throughout the course of the planning
process, the Transportation Department will rely on oversight
and advisory input from the Mesa Transportation Advisory
Board.
Completion Date
The Transportation Plan Update will be completed and ready
for City Council adoption during June, 2014.
